1. Summary This product bulletin announces the
availability of the Information Server family of products via the NetApp
Quote Tools. The product family consists of the IS1200 appliance for
specific markets (geos); InfoServerWare software products for
markets outside the The IS1200 appliances and their equivalent software version, called
InfoServerWare, are components of the NetApp Information Classification and
Management (ICM) solution set. InfoServerWare software, when loaded onto
specified platforms, creates an IS1200-equivalent appliance. These products
provide data indexing, classification, and data search functions for
unstructured data by building a metadata repository on a configurable target
store (FAS system or NearStore®). The indexing can be of two types—basic and full text. Depending on the
type of indexing chosen, the metadata storage capacity overhead requirement
varies between 5% and 30% (about 5% for basic indexing and about 30% for
full-text indexing). Typical-use cases will need from 8% to 15% storage
capacity to store the index metadata. Information Server products
can be deployed transparently, with no changes to applications, servers,
desktops, storage, authentication, or user workflow. Up to 16 IS1200 units can be
configured to operate as a cluster to provide high availability, load balancing,
and performance scalability. NetApp Information Server solutions are now available in the following models:
Due
to regulatory and agency approval issues, IS1200 appliance products are available in select markets only. The countries supported in the current
release are listed below. The appropriate country-specific power cord must be
specified (from the Power Cord Description column) in the product order (see
Section 7—Product Information).
The new InfoServerWare software products are intended for
markets that cannot be served by the IS1200 appliance products (APAC, ANZ, MEA, To date, Information Server solutions
have consisted of three IS1200 appliance models, a single InfoServerWare
software product (equivalent to the original IS1200 product), and the three
add-on software modules. From March 2007, the IS1200 solution
set consists of the following: I) Appliances:
II) Appliance-equivalent software: These software products, when
installed on specified bare-metal (no OS) servers, yield IS1200 systems
identical to the appliance models listed above.
III) Add-on software modules: These software modules can be added
on to IS1200 or InfoServerWare systems for specific applications.
The FRM
and SA models (appliance and InfoServerWare) can only host specific software
add-on modules, based on the target application. Refer to Sales Tools
(Section 4) for details. The quoting tools (CE and PE) will show and allow
only valid add-on modules to platform configurations. The ECS model can host

following links. Note: Direct attachment to SAN is not supported.
SAN environments can be supported with NAS gateways. The following is a list of all Information Server product line family part numbers available via the NetApp Quote Tools, including hardware, software, support, and services.
7.1 Ordering
IS1200 Appliances, InfoServerWare Software, or Upgrades · Please refer to the product collateral provided with the Sales Tools to determine the appropriate IS1200 or InfoServerWare model and number of units to order. · For high availability or high performance, large storage sizes, and/or load-share strategies and environments, it is recommended that clustered IS1200 be deployed. The Sizing Guide provides guidance on appropriate cluster sizes in units. · All IS1200 appliance and InfoServerWare models, or Upgrades, are ordered by navigating to “Add Parts w/ Service->InfoSrvr” in the CE Quotes tab. ·
Select the appliance, InfoServerWare model, or Upgrade package
from the drop-down menu in the System tab. This will enable the appropriate
configuration rules and display the Information Server tab. ·
Select the Information Server tab. ·
Software Option selection [optional]: Only the subset of modules
valid for the specific appliance is selectable. Choose add-on software
modules: i)
“SnapSearch” for SnapSearch (SS) add-on module (available for SA
and ECS platforms only) ii)
“TMManager” for Transparent Migration Manager (TMM) add-on module
(available for FRM and ECS platforms only) iii)
“RetentionManager” for Compliance Retention Manager (RM) add-on
module (available for ECS platform only) · Power Cord selection [appliance ONLY]: Choose the appropriate power cord for the country the system will be deployed in. Refer to the table below to identify the correct power cord option.

Mounting Hardware selection [optional – appliance ONLY]: If required,
select mounting hardware. The rack-mount kit type required depends on the
rack or shelf type deployed at the customer location. Racks/shelves are
either of 4- or 2-post varieties. The Rapid and Versa kits are for 4-post
racks, while the 2-post kit is for 2-post racks (also known as Telco racks).
The Rapid kit comes with self-lock tabs and typically does not require any
tools to install. The Versa kit requires screws for installation. ·
It is recommended that the IS1200 appliances NOT be mounted in NetApp
cabinets because the platform unit’s depth may impede proper airflow cooling
of existing storage hardware. · Information Server (Support) Services selection: All IS1200 appliance models come with a hardware warranty of 36 months. Standard hardware support includes next business day replacement; Premium support options of 2- and 4-hour replacement are available in select regions only. Please consult the InfoServer Support Matrix to verify availability of such support uplift in the deployment region. This link is also available in the Quote Tool. · Select the software support option and the contract duration. The standard warranty period for software is 90 days. This period may be extended from a minimum of 12 months up to a maximum of 36 months. Software support includes updates for patches, minor and major software releases. · Professional Service selection [optional]: Select On-Site Installation if
required. We highly recommend that a first-time IS1200/InfoServerWare
customer add the On-site Installation Service. One order of the Installation
Service product will be required for each IS1200 cluster. If an upgrade package is being ordered, the appropriate upgrade installation package will be ordered. 7.2 Platform for InfoServerWare Software ·
The InfoServerWare product
is ONLY available where IS1200 appliances cannot be shipped due to regulatory
requirements. ·
The customer is required to
order the server platform from the local market, with the appropriate agency
approvals, in which the InfoServerWare software will be installed. This
server is not orderable from NetApp. ·
The InfoServerWare software
is currently tested, certified, and supported with the following server
